Last One Laughing UK Season Two – My Dream Team
This is who I would cast, who would you cast?
Prime Video's Last One Laughing UK has proved to be the comedy hit of the year so far. It's had rave reviews everywhere from The Spectator to The Church Times. I think now that everybody with a sense of humour has surely seen it it's not a spoiler to say that Bob Mortimer triumphed after a deadpan face-off with Richard Ayoade (for those living in a cave without access to Prime Video the goal of the game is to avoid laughing).
Which just leaves one question. Prime has not announced a second series yet but it can surely only be a matter of time. So who would they cast? The only criticism i saw of the first series is that they went for some obvious big names. But without familiar TV faces such as Judi Love and Rob Beckett they might never have got viewers watching in the first place. I know I’ve gone down the billy big boots route to an extent as well, but I would genuinely like to see some of these household name stand-ups outside their natural onstage/panel show habitat.
So, I've been thinking who I would cast in the inevitable second season. Maybe this time they could take a few more risks, but I think they'd still have to go for some big names. So here's my Last One Laughing UK Season Two Dream Team.
David Mitchell – someone has to fill the straight-faced big shoes of Richard Ayoade and it can only be Mitchell. On Would Lie To You? he fumes rather than giggles which would make him an immediate favourite when it comes to not smiling. If he would take part of course. He has reportedly turned down an invite from Taskmaster.
Greg Davies – and talking of Taskmaster I wonder if LOL could lure Greg Davies. this six foot eight inch giant of comedy only has to walk into a room to make people chuckle. Though I suspect he's a bit of a closet chuckler himself, so could either win or be first out the door.
Vic Reeves – with Bob winning the first series why not bring in his double act partner Vic. Like Mitchell he might take some persuading as in his case he seems to do less comedy these days, but it's about time Jim Moir became Vic Reeves again. Even if it was just for this show.
Sarah Millican – the South Shields stand-up superstar seems to be quite happy these days doing sell out tours, but she's canny and chatty and a bit smutty and I bet she'd be able to tickle everyone with her stories.
Gary Delaney - in fact while we are at it, why not shake things up a bit and also include Mr Millican, Gary Delaney. The one type of comic missing from the show was a one-liner comedian yet it was Bob's one-liners at the end that made Richard Ayoade crack. Delaney's wordplay could wipe everyone out at one stroke - which would make it a very quick second season.
Sam Campbell – you've got to have a curveball in the house and they don't come much curvier than this madcap Australian. There is nobody quite like him. Everything Campbell touches turns to comedy gold. Yes, we know he's Australian, but he's worth bending the rules for – if there are any rules.
Roisin Conaty – Conaty has seen how the game is played at close quarters by being host Jimmy Carr's sideperson in season one. She is so very funny, why not go the whole hog and get her in the actual room for season two.
London Hughes – the unfiltered British comedian who relocated to America because she thought there are more opportunities for female comedians of colour there – maybe this can tempt her back.
Frank Skinner – You've got to stick a classic comedian in there and I was torn between Lee Mack and Frank Skinner. As we've already got Mitchell from Would I Lie To You? let's go for Skinner, the kind of comic who is always 'on' so perfect for getting a gag out of every situation.
Harriet Dyer – Not a particularly well known stand-up but she probably will be if she gets a break like this. Dyer won Channel 4's annual Sean Lock Award last year, she is whimsical, daft and once did a whole show dressed in an inflatable diplodocus costume.
Needless to say Jimmy Carr should return as host, but with Conaty competing who would take her seat next to him? How about Lucy Beaumont? She is very funny and has also been very outspoken recent about TV shows not featuring enough women...

Nick Helm has been suggested elsewhere - he was actually on my list but then i realised I'd picked eleven names so he got bumped - I guess he's number one on the sub's bench.
Yes to Harriet Dyer. She deserves to blow up. My absolute circuit favourite
