The Americans are coming, but don’t worry, we aren’t being invaded. It’s just American comedians doing UK shows.
Most eagerly anticipated is probably Sarah Silverman. The two-time Emmy Award-winning comedian Sarah Silverman has announced an exclusive performance of Sarah Silverman: Postmortem at the London Palladium on 28th April; her first UK show in 12 years. Ticket details here.
And another Emmy-winning comedian, Wanda Sykes is also playing UK dates. Sykes has ranked among Entertainment Weekly's “25 Funniest People in America” and her peers have called her “one of the funniest stand-up comics” in the world. This is Wanda’s first visit to the UK following her sold out show at London’s Union Chapel in 2019, this time performing at Manchester’s New Century Hall, Brighton Dome, and London’s Royal Festival Hall. ticket details and more here.
There are some British acts on the road tour as well. Mock the Week star Angela Barnes has just kicked off her latest tour. Find out why it’s called Angst and much more in this illuminating brand new interview here. Picture by Matt Crockett. As Barnes says: “Nobody wants to watch a comedian and hear about how brilliant their life is. Where's the fun in that?”
And Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Jordan Brookes is currently doing his latest show Fonatnelle at the Soho Theatre. We sent along our guest critic Bruce Death Hole to see what all the fuss is about. Read their review here.
Further cast names have been announced for Sky’s feelgood Christmas movie Tinsel Town, with Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel Wilson, currently being shot in the UK.
Sutherland plays Bradley Mack, a failed Hollywood action star who ends up in a small, snow-dusted village to star in the town’s eccentric production of Cinderella. Here, he encounters a colourful cast of oddball locals who slowly come to hold a special place in his heart, including no-nonsense choreographer Jill (Wilson).
Comedian Katherine Ryan (The Duchess) will take on the role of Mack’s long suffering agent with the local villagers played by the legendary British actor Derek Jacobi (Gladiator II), Mawaan Rizwan (Juice), Maria Friedman (Unforgotten), Jason Manford (Waterloo Road), Asim Chaudhry (People Just do Nothing) Danny Dyer (Rivals), Ray Fearon (Barbie), Alice Eve (Star Trek In To Darkness), Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris) and James Lance (Ted Lasso) with Meera Syal (The Wheel of Time), taking on the role of the productions’ director. Breakout star Savannah Lee Smith (Cruel Intentions) has also been added to the line-up. More info here.
And if you love TV, the date has been announced for Rob Beckett’s Smart TV – the ultimate TV quiz show about TV. Host Rob Beckett is joined for the second series by returning captains Josh Widdicombe and Alison Hammond, as the trio welcome some the UK’s favourite personalities to celebrate and battle it out on all things telly.
