It has come to my attention that some people are ditching Twitter, now known as X, while others are forsaking Facebook. I normally post comedy news on those sites but maybe people are missing out on them. Now that I’ve got lots of lovely followers on Substack I thought it might be worth little old me regularly posting the bullet points of latest stories here. Comedy channel Gold is set to take a reflective look at Absolutely Fabulous (pictured above, picture © Adam Lawrence), one of Britain’s most-loved comic creations set in the world of fashion PR in the 90s, with a brand-new retrospective, Absolutely Fabulous: Inside Out. Scottish comedian Janey Godley (above) has announced that she is cancelling her upcoming tour due to illness. Janey has stage 4 ovarian cancer and treatment has kept the disease at bay, but in the last few weeks the cancer has returned and there have been a few added complications. Her doctors have now advised her that she must stop work for the foreseeable future. More details and a video statement from Janey here.
Lucy Beaumont (pictured above), Johnny Vegas, Kae Kurd and Babatunde Aléshé are set to appear in the next series of The World’s Most Dangerous Roads, which airs on U&Dave in November. Lucy Beaumont said, “I still can’t believe I made in one piece; I must admit I didn’t want to be on a dangerous road with Johnny driving, but I didn’t want to leave either. What started out as a white-knuckle ride turned out to be a spiritual experience which cemented that me and Jonny will be lifelong friends”. More details here.
In tour news controversial comedian Alfie Brown (pictured above) has just set out on tour with his latest show Open Hearted Human enquiry in which he talks about being cancelled when an old tweet resurfaced and was widely shared of him using a racial slur in the context of a joke about intersectionality - Alfie Brown explains that he tells woke jokes in a non-woke fashion but the memo didn’t appear to get through.
